The movie, Pearl Harbor, is a fictional story based on the historic event. In the movie, two childhood friends, Rafe and Danny, are first lieutenants in the US Air Corps. Although Rafe has dyslexia, a nurse, Evelyn, passes him for his physical examination. Rafe falls head over heals for Evelyn, and the two soon start dating, and fall in love. However, Rafe had volunteered to to serve on the Royal Air Force's Eagle Squadrons, and must leave for England. Before going, he promises Evelyn that he will come back. After he leaves, Evelyn and Danny are transferred to Pearl Harbor. Rafe is shot down over the English Channel, and he is presumed to be dead. Word gets back to Evelyn and Danny, who begin to develop feelings for one another. Assuming that Rafe is dead, the two start a relationship together. Eventually, Rafe finds his way to Pearl Harbor on December 6, 1941. He finds out that Evelyn and Danny are now dating, and he and Danny start to fight. It doesn't last long, however, because the next day the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor. The surprise attack sinks many ships on the harbor, including the USS Arizona and the USS Oklahoma. Evelyn, being a nurse, tries to help as many as she can at the hospital, having to decide who can be saved and who can't. Rafe and Danny manage to shoot down seven Japanese aircraft. Later, they return to the hospital. Evelyn takes blood from them to try and save as many of the wounded soldiers as she can, and they try to find and rescue men that are still in the harbor. After the attack, the United States declairs war on Japan, and the survivors attend a memorial service for the victims. For their bravery and efforts, Rafe and Danny are promoted to Captain and are assigned with Colonol Doolittle to a dangerous mission. Before they leave, Evelyn tells Rafe that she is pregnant with Danny's child. She doesn't want Danny to know so he can concentrate on the mission. She says she wants to stay with Danny, although she has conflicting feelings as she is still very in love with Rafe. Danny and Rafe, along with some others, are supossed to to bomb Tokyo and Japanese territory in China. Although they succeed in the bombing, they run out of fuel and have a crash landing in a rice field. They are captured by a Japanese soldiers. As a soldier is about to shoot Rafe, Danny knocks over the soldiers and ends up being the one who gets shot. The rest of the men begin trying to fight off the other Japanese soldiers. Rafe holds Danny in his arms and tells him he can't die because he's going to be a father. Danny's last words are that he wants Rafe to raise his son, and then he dies. A few years later, Rafe and Evelyn are together and raising Danny's son, who was named Danny after his biological father. The movie ends with Rafe and Danny flying off into the sunset.
